あまり・ あまりの~にSo extreme that; because of excessive...
This pattern presents an emotion, condition, or pursuit as so extreme that it causes a notable result. The result is often an involuntary reaction, a loss of control, or behavior distorted by the intensity.
How the pattern works
The part before あまり names the extreme cause; the following clause gives its consequence. The construction does more than say that something was intense: it highlights how that intensity overwhelmed a normal response.

Analyzeあまりの暑さに、駅まで歩いただけで気分が悪くなった。

AnalyzePutting the extreme condition first
Use あまりの before a noun when you want that condition itself to stand out. The noun often names an emotion, physical condition, shock, confusion, or another overwhelming situation. Choose に or で according to the natural phrasing of the sentence.
あまりの混乱で、必要な書類まで捨ててしまった。
There was so much confusion that I even threw away a document I needed.
AnalyzeDo not confuse the two kinds of excess
あまり~ない means “not very” or “not often” and requires a negative ending; it does not present excessive intensity as a cause. すぎる is the more general and conversational way to say that something is excessive, while causal あまり gives stronger narrative weight to both the extreme condition and its consequence.
