だけにPrecisely because; all the more because

だけに presents a result as especially understandable, fitting, or strongly felt because of the preceding quality or circumstance. The result may be favorable or unfavorable.

The reason makes the result especially fitting

The first part does more than supply a cause. Its degree, importance, cost, quality, or history explains why the following result is especially strong or natural. In English, this often corresponds to “precisely because,” “given that,” or an implied “all the more.”

Favorable and unfavorable results

The same pattern works with praise, practical consequences, and disappointment. What matters is that the result clearly follows from the notable circumstance.

かれげんけいけんながいだけにはんだんはやてきかくだ。

Given his extensive field experience, his decisions are quick and accurate.

Analyze

His long experience makes the favorable result especially understandable.

まえひょうばんたかかっただけにじっさいないようにはがっかりした。

Analyze

このぎょうふくざつなだけにかくにんにはじゅうぶんかんをかけたい。

Analyze

Why disappointment is common

An unfavorable conclusion is especially natural when the first clause created high expectations. The stronger the expectation, effort, expense, or importance, the more deeply the disappointing result is felt. However, the construction itself is not negative; it works just as well when the outcome meets expectations.
