に関かんして・に関かんするconcerning; regarding (formal)

について in formal dress: it marks what a question, a notice or a report is about. Before a noun it becomes に関かんする.

新あたらしい奨しょう学がく金きん制せい度どに関かんして、学がく生せいから多おおくの質しつ問もんが寄よせられた。

before a noun

市しは騒そう音おんに関かんする調ちょう査さ結けっ果かを公こう開かいした。

How to form it

Noun + に関かんして

Writing often shortens it to に関かんし. Business email and announcements stretch it to に関かんしまして.

Before a noun

Noun + に関かんする + noun

環かん境きょうに関かんする本ほん, a book on the environment. に関かんしての exists, but に関かんする is the usual one.

Before it: The matter in hand: この件けん (this matter), 契けい約やく (a contract), 安あん全ぜん性せい (safety), 個こ人じん情じょう報ほう (personal data).
After it: Asking, answering, explaining, announcing. After に関かんする, a noun such as 質しつ問もん, 情じょう報ほう, 調ちょう査さ or お知しらせ.
Where you'll meet it: Business email, notices, forms, reports, the news. Spoken too, at work and in interviews.

In use

台たい風ふうに関かんする最さい新しんの情じょう報ほうは、テレビやラジオで確かく認にんしてください。

Check the TV or radio for the latest information on the typhoon.

応おう募ぼ条じょう件けんに関かんし、ご不ふ明めいな点てんは事じ務む局きょくまでお問とい合あわせください。

に関かんして or について?

The meaning is the same. について is at home anywhere. に関かんして is the voice of a company, an office or a newsreader, and among friends it can sound like an announcement.

新あたらしい勤きん務む制せい度どについて同どう僚りょうと話はなした。

I talked with a colleague about the new working arrangements.

What you talk, think, write or ask about. Fine anywhere.

新あたらしい勤きん務む制せい度どに関かんして、人じん事じ部ぶが報ほう告こく書しょを公こう表ひょうした。

The personnel department published a report on the new working arrangements.

The same, said officially.

A verb, 関かかわる: one thing has a bearing on another. Usually something serious is at stake: a life, safety, a reputation.

It is not a life-threatening injury.

An issue that several sides argue, compete or negotiate over: "over". What follows is usually their dispute.

港みなとの再さい開かい発はつ案あんをめぐって、市しと漁ぎょ業ぎょう組くみ合あいが交こう渉しょうを続つづけている。

The city and the fishing cooperative are still negotiating over the plan to redevelop the port.
