ことかことだろうHow...! / How much...!

This pattern turns an expression of degree, amount, frequency, or manner into an emotional exclamation. It emphasizes how great, intense, moving, or difficult something is rather than asking for an answer.

Building the exclamation

Use a scale-setting expression such as どれほど, どんなに, or なん. The surrounding situation shows the emotion: admiration and gratitude are possible, but so are longing, hardship, pain, and surprise.

ながりょうあいだぞくささえがわたしにとってどれほどこころづよかったことか

How reassuring my family's support was to me during the long treatment!

Analyze

The degree expression establishes a scale, while the ending presents the speaker's gratitude and strong feeling as an exclamation.

Choosing the ending

ことか is compact and strongly exclamatory. ことだろう often gives the feeling a reflective tone, while ことでしょう is its polite counterpart. In this pattern, the reflective ending does not normally need to be translated as a prediction such as “probably.”
