的Adjective-forming suffix
的 attaches to an established noun base and creates an adjective-like word meaning related to, characterized by, resembling, or oriented toward that idea. The resulting word can describe a subject, modify a noun, or modify an action.
The three basic forms
Once the complete word has been formed, use it much like a na-adjective.
Interpret the whole word
There is no single English translation for this suffix. For example, 医学的 usually means “medical” or “from a medical standpoint,” 個人的 means “personal,” and 劇的 often means “dramatic” or “striking.” Learn the meaning and typical combinations of the complete word rather than translating the suffix mechanically.
Relation to a field
医学的な観点から、追加の検査が必要です。
From a medical standpoint, additional tests are necessary.

Analyze段階的に describes a step-by-step manner rather than simply expressing a connection with stages.
Do not choose by English translation alone
的 forms an established adjective-like word. らしい instead expresses typicality or an inference; っぽい is more conversational and often evaluative; and がち describes something that repeatedly tends to happen, often undesirably. Even when English uses “-ish” or “tends to,” these forms are not mechanical substitutes for one another.
