Second, ask whose action, state, or identity the sentence presents. Respectful language raises the person being described; humble language keeps the speaker’s side low in relation to someone else. Very polite wording such as でございます can raise the formality of a sentence without doing either. Then ask what kind of situation this is: a favor between close people, a clear instruction, a respectful service interaction, or an institutional message.
