To throw someone into a situation or place, often casually or without preparation. Implies a lack of care.
To force or impose a role, responsibility, or task onto someone. Often has a negative connotation of pushing something unwanted.
To be abruptly put into a new state, such as chaos, darkness, or prominence.
To fall into a negative state or situation. Often used with words like 混乱 (chaos) or 危機 (crisis).

The country was thrust into chaos.
To be enveloped or shrouded in something, like darkness or silence. Passive form of 包む.

The room was thrust into darkness.
To suddenly become the center of public attention, often unwillingly.
To be thrust into the limelight or spotlight. Literally 'to bathe in footlights'.

To become the focus of attention. A more general phrase than 脚光を浴びる.

The incident thrust him into the public eye.
The verb 突く (tsuku) means 'to poke' or 'to thrust', but it is not used with 'into' in the same way as English. Use compound verbs like 突っ込む or 押し込む for the sense of thrusting into a space.
新入社員をいきなり大きなプロジェクトに放り込んだ。
They thrust the new employee straight into a big project.
彼にリーダーの役割を押し付けた。
They thrust the role of leader upon him.
