continue, series, sequel
続 centers on things following one after another without breaking: continuing, forming a series, or producing a sequel.
続 is the modern simplified form of 續. The older form combines 糸 (thread) with 賣, which likely contributed the sound and the idea of connecting or continuing like threads.
The left side is thread 糸, and the right side 売 looks like a series of connected strokes. Picture threads being spun together endlessly to continue a long series.
For ゾク, imagine a zoku (a made-up word for a continuous chain) of threads linking one after another: zoku -> ゾク, and the threads keep continuing.
