contrast, compare
較 centers on examining two things side by side to see how they differ: contrasting and comparing.
較 combines 車 (vehicle, cart) with 交 (cross, exchange), originally referring to the crossbar of a carriage used for comparison or measurement. The modern meaning of comparing or contrasting grew from this concrete object.
Picture two carts (車) crossing paths (交) at an intersection, allowing you to compare their loads side by side.
For カク, imagine comparing two cacti side by side: cactus -> カク, and you contrast their spines.
