dart, arrow
矢 centers on a projectile weapon: a dart or an arrow, typically shot from a bow.
矢 is a pictograph of an arrow, with the top representing the arrowhead, the horizontal line the shaft, and the lower part the fletching or nock.
The top slanted stroke is the arrowhead, the long horizontal line is the shaft, and the lower crossed strokes are the feathers at the back. Together they form an arrow ready to fly.
For シ, imagine an arrow flying with a sharp 'shee' sound through the air: shee -> シ, and the arrow hits its target.
