Used when putting a person, candidate, option, work, performer, etc. forward as worthy of support. In modern casual contexts it can also mean actively supporting or being a fan of someone or something.

A friend recommended it to me, so I started reading this manga.
最近、彼はそのバンドを推している。
Recently he has been supporting that band.

Formal or written use for drawing a conclusion from evidence, circumstances, wording, or context. Common patterns include 〜から推すと and 〜から推して.
状況から推すと、犯人はまだ近くにいる可能性が高い。
Judging from the situation, the culprit is probably still nearby.
彼の口ぶりから推して、計画はすでに決まっているらしい。
From the way he spoke, it seems the plan has already been decided.

Rare and old-fashioned as an independent modern verb in this sense. In ordinary contemporary Japanese, 考え抜く, 熟考する, or 推し量る-like expressions are more likely depending on the nuance.
古い用法では、「推す」が「深く考える」という意味で使われることがある。
In older usage, 推す can be used to mean 'to think deeply'.
