能のう事じ

one's work; one's duty; one's task

A somewhat formal or literary term for the work or duty one is responsible for. Often used in the phrase 能事終われり (the task is done).

• 彼かれは能のう事じを終おえて、静しずかに筆ふでを置おいた。

  He finished his task and quietly laid down his brush.

• 能のう事じ終おわれり、と言いえる日ひはまだ遠とおい。

  The day when I can say 'my work is done' is still far off.
