Used when something departs from a rule, standard, normal course, topic, or expected range. As a する verb it is usually intransitive, commonly in the pattern 〜から逸脱する.

Rare, specialized use for something being left out accidentally, especially in textual or editorial contexts. In ordinary modern Japanese, 脱落 or 漏れ is usually more transparent for this idea.
本文校訂では、「一字の逸脱」は一字が抜け落ちていることをいう。
In textual editing, “one-character 逸脱” means that one character has been omitted.
