For my health, I eat brown rice instead of white rice.
Brown rice is richer in dietary fiber than white rice.
Kanji 玄 mysterious, occultness, black Opposites 玄米 keeps the bran and germ intact, while 白米 has been polished to remove them, making it the standard everyday rice.
玄米 is unpolished brown rice still with its bran layer, the opposite of 精米, which has had the bran removed.
Don't confuse with 玄米 retains the full bran layer and germ, whereas 胚芽米 has the bran milled away but keeps the germ, making it softer and less fibrous than 玄米.
籾 is rice still sealed in its husk, whereas 玄米 is the grain after the husk has been removed but the bran layer left on.
