A philosophical or psychological term for prioritizing one's own interests or self-centeredness. Often used in contrast with 利他主義 (altruism).

利他主義 means altruism, the opposite of 自己主義. While 自己主義 focuses on self-interest, 利他主義 emphasizes concern for others.
利己主義 is a near-synonym also meaning egoism or selfishness. 自己主義 is slightly more formal and philosophical, while 利己主義 is more common in everyday contexts.
