bowl, bowl of food
丼 centers on a bowl, especially a bowl of food. It is the kanji for the familiar Japanese donburi rice bowl dish.
丼 is a pictograph of a bowl with a dot inside representing its contents. The modern form keeps this simple image clearly.
The outer 井 looks like a bowl's rim and sides, and the inner 丶 is a piece of food inside. Together they make a bowl of food.
For トン, imagine a heavy stone bowl that makes a deep 'ton' sound when you set it down: ton -> トン, and the bowl is full of food.
