Hitachi-Ume era (sumo)

The Hitachi-Ume era is one of the most popular periods in sumo history.
Named after the grand champions Hitachiyama (常陸山) and Umegatani II (梅ヶ谷), who dominated sumo in the early 1900s. The reading ひたちうめじだい combines the first parts of their ring names.
