Used when visually comparing two or more things, or judging them by looking at them side by side. The objects are usually marked with を, often as AとBを見比べる.
二枚の写真を見比べると、違いがすぐ分かる。
If you compare the two photos, you can see the difference right away.

An extended use for comparing factors and taking them into account when making a judgment. It still has a sense of setting things side by side mentally, rather than simply remembering one fact.
価格と性能を見比べて、新しいパソコンを選んだ。
I chose a new computer by weighing the price against the performance.
各社の条件を見比べてから契約を決めたい。
I want to decide on the contract after taking each company's terms into consideration.
