noun, noun or participle which takes 'suru', transitive verb
catching up; overtaking
A much less common literal use meaning to pursue and catch up with someone or something. In ordinary modern Japanese, 追いつく or 追い越す is usually clearer.
「先発隊を追及する」という表現では、追いかけて追いつくという意味になる。
In the expression “追及する the advance party,” it means to chase after and catch up with them.

追及する focuses on pursuing someone with questions to uncover the truth, while 責め立てる emphasizes the emotional intensity of the blame itself.
追及する stresses persistent pursuit or pressing someone for the truth, while 糺す is broader and can also mean simply confirming facts.
追及する means to press someone to admit fault or explain themselves, a more active pursuit than 問う, which simply raises the issue of responsibility.
言及 and 追及 share the kanji 及 and are often confused, but 追及 means to pursue or press someone (e.g. for responsibility), not to mention a topic.
追及 shares the kanji 追 with 追跡 but means to press or pursue a matter (like questioning someone), not to physically or digitally track a moving target.
