さらにFurthermore; further
さらに adds another point while often moving an explanation, line of reasoning, or process one step further. Before a verb or adjective, it can also mean “even more” or “further.”
Moving the idea forward
The added point should normally extend the same line of thought: it may introduce another stage, strengthen a trend, add a consequence, or develop the reasoning further. It is less natural when the second statement is simply an unrelated fact.
A further stage
調査チームは第一段階を終えた。さらに、来月から現地での聞き取り調査を始める。
The research team has completed the first stage. Furthermore, it will begin field interviews next month.

Developing the reasoning

This plan would reduce wasted materials. In addition, it would shorten the time needed for completion.

Choosing an addition word
Use また when another point is simply parallel to the first. さらに often suggests forward movement, another stage, or an increase. その上 tends to pile up supporting facts for the same assessment, while しかも presents the added fact as especially noteworthy or unexpected.
