受 combines 爪 (hand from above) and 又 (hand from below) with 冖 (a cover or object between them), depicting one hand passing something to another hand. This conveys receiving or accepting.
The top hand 爪 passes something under a cover 冖 to the bottom hand 又. Picture catching a ball or accepting a gift: 受 is receiving.
