Used in documents, tables, and lists to indicate that the current entry is the same as the one directly above. Common in formal and academic writing.
Please write 'ditto' in the second row of the table.
When it is the same as the previous item, write 'same as above'.
Usage patterns
- 〈事〉：同上used after a list item to show it is the same as the one directly above
Name: Yamada Taro, Address: same as above.
- 同上の理由でfor the same reason as stated above
The application was rejected for the same reason as above.
- 以下同上the same applies to everything below (in a document or list)
Since the same applies below, further entries are omitted.
