Used when a person or authority allows an action, request, or situation. The object is often an action noun such as 外出, 使用, 入場, or 撮影.
先生は早退を許した。
The teacher allowed the student to leave early.
この建物では写真撮影を許していない。

Covers forgiving a person, pardoning an offense, excusing a fault, or tolerating behavior. 赦す may appear for solemn or religious/legal pardon, but 許す is the normal broad spelling.

A limited formal or old-fashioned use for remitting a punishment, debt, duty, or similar burden. In modern everyday Japanese, 免じる or 免除する is often more natural for this idea.
硬い文章では、「刑を許す」が刑罰を免じる意味で使われることがある。
In formal writing, 刑を許す may be used to mean remitting a punishment.
