• 申しん請せい書しょに推すい薦せん状じょうを添そえる。

  I attach a letter of recommendation to the application.

Used when a person accompanies someone to provide assistance, guidance, or translation.

• 外がい国こく人じんの観かん光こう客きゃくに通つう訳やくを添そえて案あん内ないした。

  I guided the foreign tourists with an interpreter accompanying them.

Archaic senses. Sense 4: to mimic or imitate. Sense 5: to draw something near or approach. Not used in modern Japanese.

• 古こ典てんでは、人ひとの動どう作さを添そえることが「まねる」の意いで使つかわれた。

  In classical texts, 添える was used to mean 'to mimic' someone's actions.
