Used for objects, food, or abstract things becoming damaged, spoiled, or deteriorated. Food spoilage is a common use.
冷蔵庫に入れないと肉が傷むよ。
The meat will go bad if you don't put it in the fridge.
雨で屋根が傷んでしまった。
The roof got damaged by the rain.
My legs ache from yesterday's exercise.
The furniture gets damaged from humidity.
疼く describes a dull, throbbing pain, while 痛む is the general verb for hurting or aching of any kind.
劣化する is a more formal, technical word for materials or quality deteriorating over time, while 痛む is the everyday verb for the same idea.
