Mainly fixed-expression or literary use. For ordinary everyday 'enter a room/building', 入る is normally read はいる.

Literary or poetic use for the sun or moon going down; do not confuse it with 日が入る read はいる, meaning sunlight comes in.

• 古ふるい文ぶん章しょうでは、「日ひが山やまに入いる」は太たい陽ようが沈しずむことを表あらわす。

  In older writing, 日が山に入る means that the sun sinks behind the mountain.

Used in Buddhist, literary, and set idiomatic expressions for reaching a special state, such as nirvana, mastery, or a climactic point; it is not the normal general verb for achieving a goal.

• 仏ぶっ教きょうで「涅ね槃はんに入いる」は、悟さとりの境きょう地ちに達たっすることをいう。

  In Buddhism, 涅槃に入る means to attain the state of enlightenment.

• 彼かれの落らく語ごはすっかり堂どうに入いっている。

  His rakugo performance has become thoroughly polished.

Suffix-like use after a verb's masu-stem, seen in compounds such as 聞き入る and 感じ入る. It adds a sense of being absorbed, deeply affected, or doing something with full attention.
